Dear MBIC Family,
We have procrastinated writing this letter because it is hard to write. I (Kelly) joined the church staff almost nine years ago and after transitioning from Children’s Ministry to REMIX to 56ers, the hardest transition yet is the one we are making now: stepping away from youth ministry and no longer being on staff at MBIC. This change in our lives is big and bittersweet, as our experiences as a part of the MBIC staff team have been a blessing beyond measure, but our walk with Jesus is leading us into new waters. Our world’s current COVID-19 crisis exacerbates our leaving as we do not have the opportunity to finish this journey with our amazing students and leaders face to face. However, COVID-19 has dealt us a plethora of time to pray and be sure that how we are living and the decisions we are making are God-honoring and wise.
Why are we making this decision? Simply put: the Lord has directed us to do so. The past four years the Lord has laid it heavily upon our hearts to focus on small scale discipleship, especially in our own home. We felt very specifically called to homeschooling (a big surprise to us!) and love it. We were overjoyed to welcome a fourth daughter into our family in the spring of 2019 and life has been only sweeter with her in it. As God writes our family story, we are striving to stay close and obedient to his will. Trying to give our best in service to Him in our home and in leading a ministry has gotten too taxing, and we all know what must come first. We will end our time as 56ers directors at the end of May 2020.
We hope and pray that whoever is reading this letter “may know the abundant love of our God more and more…so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ” (Philippians 1:9-10). Thank you so much for your love, prayers and support. We are so grateful.
Kelly & Kurt Funk
P.S. Through this transition in 56ers leadership, Pastor Corby will be the go-to person for any questions or concerns.
