Discussion Prompts

Last week we started to look at the five building blocks for community: “Connection, Care, Challenge, Clarity & Celebration” taken from Acts 2:42-47. Pastor Bryce zeroed then in on the first building block called “Connection”. Revisit last week sermon if you would like to review that. Today we focused on the second building block called “Care”.
Care in community is about a commitment to carry through kindness. That can be underserved and many times hard to deliver on. – Pastor Bryce
As you look at your commitment to care there are a few challenges to think about. Bryce’s first point was that we care in a way that reflects God’s care for us. To better understand this task “Think of a time when someone cared for you even tough it was hard to do so?“
God continuously cares for you, What is your response to His care? Gratitude. Being blessed. Let it also be a motivation to care for others and bless them.
King David’s commitment to care for Jonathan was limitless. Long after Jonathan and his father, King Saul, were dead, David took on the care of Jonathan’s crippled son Mephibosheth. And David did it for the rest of his life. Was there a time when Care became a continuous commitment you made to someone?
Challenge: Evaluate your life and see if you can take on a longtime care. Visit a suffering friend on a weekly basis. Do that shopping trip for your neighbor long after the COVID pandemic is over. Make that caring phone call to the lonely elderly person, every day, just fo a few minutes to check in. Volunteer at  places like Water Street Mission or North Star Initiative. Options for care are unlimited, but can have an eternal impact.
As for a short term commitment, ask yourself this last question: How will you make an effort this week to Care for someone? Make it practical. Make it happen.
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:6-7)
Thank you for caring!
May God bless you!

BibleApp

Through the Bible in one Year

Join us in reading through the entire Bible in one year. Each day of this plan guides you through passages from both the Old and New Testaments, allowing you to see connections between the history of our faith, and the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan. Readings average four chapters in length, so it is posible to do. When you use the YouVersion Bible App, you can even have the app read the Bible text to you – very useful when you are in the car or otherwise occupied with your hand.

All you need to do is click the link to the Bible Plan, which should lead you straight to the Bible app. Your two options are now (1) to read the plan on your own, one day at the time. Or (2) you can make it more fun and rewarding, by sharing the plan with one or more friends, and then even “Talk about it”.
