Start with the end in Mind
The Month of February has Valentine’s Day embedded right in the middle. Fittingly, within our new sermon series, we will be looking at Relationship Goals. Four well-planned sermons that focus on healthy, godly relationships.
And it doesn’t matter if you think of a relationship as a connection between your spouse and you, or if that relationship is between you and other family members, you and a coworker, or you and a friend. We humans are created as social beings, and we need to learn to relate to each other, in a godly way.
Our first sermon actually starts “With the End in Mind”. Relationships, in a godly sense, start with the goal to become more Christ-like, more holy. Christ is the foundation for everything, and from that foundation, we need to build up a house of relationships that reflect these foundational truths.
So here is how this can look like practically:
  1. If Christ, and the way he lived and died, are the foundation for our relationships, What are things that Christ was known for? How did He relate to people?
Take a piece of paper and write down a few character traits Christ was known for, especially the ones that display relationships? (Maybe looking at his relationship with the Pharisees is not the best place to start). In general, words like compassionate, caring, supportive, serving, and others might come to mind. But also phrases like willing to submit to God’s leading, doing his father’s will, and so on.
  1. In a second step, ask yourself: What can you do, to lovingly help another person be more holy? Think of one specific person. How can you lift that person up? How can you create an environment of growth and love? Now think of a second person and repeat this step.
And a third thing:
  1. How does that conflict, that you just had, with that other person contribute to you being more holy, more Christ-like? Do you need to learn patience? Do you need to learn forgiveness? Or do you even need to ask for forgiveness and drop that sinful behavior of yours?
As you go into this coming week, look at two or three relationships that you have. Look at them with the End in Mind. Where do you see this relationship in a year from now? And what needs to happen to get there?
Blessings to you as you bless others with your presence.

Through the Bible in one Year

Join us in reading through the entire Bible in one year. Each day of this plan guides you through passages from both the Old and New Testaments, allowing you to see connections between the history of our faith, and the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan. Readings average four chapters in length, so it is posible to do. When you use the YouVersion Bible App, you can even have the app read the Bible text to you – very useful when you are in the car or otherwise occupied with your hand.

All you need to do is click the link to the Bible Plan, which should lead you straight to the Bible app. Your two options are now (1) to read the plan on your own, one day at the time. Or (2) you can make it more fun and rewarding, by sharing the plan with one or more friends, and then even “Talk about it”.
