Discussion Prompts
Even though today’s message focused on the life of Gideon, we can clearly hear the personal challenge in the message. A challenge for us to live aligned with God’s purpose for your life. Gideon was afraid, anxious, and even complaining towards God. “Why, God, why is there so much chaos in this world?”
Pastor Bryce challenged us with a possible answer from God, saying “Well, I was going to ask you the same thing: “Why is it? What are you doing on my behalf?”
We might have the same response as Gideon had, “Why me? Who am I?” Today’s discussion prompts will have you and your group think about that a little bit: Who are you?
First, individually, ask yourself:
- What do people say about me? How would people introduce me, if I would be invited up on stage? Which part of my life & which talents would they highlight?
- What do I think about myself? What are your strengths, and also weaknesses?
Write these things down. And ponder on them for a few minutes.
Now as a group, or by connecting with a friend, as the other person/people:
- What do you think about me? What are my gifts and talents? And where should I invest time to improve, what are my weak spots?
I know this is a tough one to ask, just as much as it is a tough one to answer. But try it. You might be pleasantly surprised.
One more thing along this line: What does God say about you?
Read the following Bible verses: Jeremiah 29:11; 31:3-4; Romans 5:1-11 (read v.8 again); John 3:16; 2 Peter 1:3-4 (read it in the New Living Translation).
Probably the most important step now is, what you do with this somewhat new view of yourself? Are you going to change the world for Christ? Or are you going to hide your talent?
I want to leave you with one very important quote:
It is not the circumstances of your life, that define who you are. Rather, these same circumstances are your greatest asset to reach people for Christ!
Blessings to you!
