Light of the World

Light of the World

Can we send you some fun activities so you can learn about Jesus right along with your friends? Fill out the Quest Activity Request Form.

Study Guide:

Looking at Jesus’ famous I AM words, we can see that Jesus was much more than just a mere human. In fact, he himself claimed to be much more. This week’s famous I AM statement is I am the Light of the World! (John 8:312)

Pastor Alex Seidler compared the priests’ accusations in John 8 with today’s Cancel Culture – probably a very accurate observation.

What are “cultural” life-styles or actions that are a no-go in today’s Culture? What are the things people are being rejected or judged? Think outside of the (Christian-)box. – Write down a few. Now pick one of the topics you have just listed and respond to it in a CONVICTing way. If you need a refresher on the difference between CONVICT and CONDEMN, watch the first part of the sermon again. Write down a fictitious conversation of that response, or better yet, do a role-play within your group.

Let’s shift the focus for a second. If Jesus is the Light of the World, in what area of your life would you need some light? Where can Jesus not only be the light at the end of the tunnel but literally brighten your entire day? Let Jesus be the Light of YOUR World.

And thirdly, brighten the day of another person. Give a smile to a cashier. Give an encouraging word to a struggler. Share the joy of the gospel with a hurting person.

Bring light into a situation of a person that is struggling. Do it! Today!

Extra Challenge: Within the next couple of weeks, read the entire Book of John – 7 weeks, 3 chapters a week, 20 verses a day. It is manageable!

Through the Bible in one Year

Join us in reading through the entire Bible in one year. Each day of this plan guides you through passages from both the Old and New Testaments, allowing you to see connections between the history of our faith, and the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan. Readings average four chapters in length, so it is posible to do. When you use the YouVersion Bible App, you can even have the app read the Bible text to you – very useful when you are in the car or otherwise occupied with your hand.

All you need to do is click the link to the Bible Plan, which should lead you straight to the Bible app. Your two options are now (1) to read the plan on your own, one day at the time. Or (2) you can make it more fun and rewarding, by sharing the plan with one or more friends, and then even “Talk about it”.
