Thank You Jesus – Week 2

Thank You Jesus – Week 2

Study Guide:

Thank. You. Jesus. Throughout our new sermon series, though short but powerful, pastor Bryce will help us see what a treasure it is to have Jesus in our life. Thankfulness starts with recognizing what we are thankful for. Pastor Bryce suggested that you read the first chapter of every letter Paul wrote. This would be 13 chapters. Let start with reading these three passages: Ephesians 1:3-14 / 2.Thesalonians 1:3-10 / 1.Timothy 1:8-12
Having read these passages, what is it that sticks out to you? What did you learn about Jesus? Write down three to four key takeaways of what you cherish about Jesus. Now, stop and pray! Thank Him for who He is and what He has done for you.
A second thing pastor Bryce challenged us with is a thankfulness that is seen and felt by others. More specifically he asked: “What do people say about you? Can people see that you are thankful?” Write down three instances in the last week where you were actually in a thankful spirit. What were you thankful for? Share with your groups what you are thankful for.
Thankfulness in hard circumstances is a challenge. Yet, in the sermon, we were reminded that even in the hardest times we can be thankful if we focus on Jesus. When you look back on that time when things got very tough or sad, how did Jesus step in and help you in the midst of the situation?
Remember, when Paul wrote this letter he was most likely in a prison in Rome.  Read today’s Bible text again: Colossians 1:11-17. Circle the words that express what Paul was thankful for in the middle of this tough circumstance. What is the one thing from the text that you want to hold onto as a “spiritual gold nugget”? Write it down.
This Sunday’s sermon had us look at Jesus as the source of our thankfulness. As you go into this week, once a day, make it a point to stop for five minutes and thank God. Thank him for whatever comes to your mind at that moment.

Through the Bible in one Year

Join us in reading through the entire Bible in one year. Each day of this plan guides you through passages from both the Old and New Testaments, allowing you to see connections between the history of our faith, and the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan. Readings average four chapters in length, so it is posible to do. When you use the YouVersion Bible App, you can even have the app read the Bible text to you – very useful when you are in the car or otherwise occupied with your hand.

All you need to do is click the link to the Bible Plan, which should lead you straight to the Bible app. Your two options are now (1) to read the plan on your own, one day at the time. Or (2) you can make it more fun and rewarding, by sharing the plan with one or more friends, and then even “Talk about it”.
